After three decades in the crane and lifting industry, Metcalf Crane Services is closing a chapter and giving buyers the opportunity to own a piece of its fleet. More than 100 lots are now available through Ritchie Bros. Marketplace-E, offered on a Buy Now or Make an Offer basis.

Based in Victoria, Metcalf Crane Services has built a strong reputation supporting major rail, road, wind, water and telecommunications infrastructure projects across Australia. The complete dispersal includes some of the company’s major capital equipment, as well as transport and support assets.

A fleet built for big jobs

At the heart of the dispersal is a selection of high-capacity, late-model cranes rarely seen together in one sale. Among the highlights:

• 2023 Liebherr LTM1750-9.1 — 800-ton all-terrain crane with just 464 hours
• 2012 Terex Demag TC2800-1 — 600-ton all-terrain crane with a 138 m main lattice boom and 192 m total system length
• 2023 Tadano AC 7.450-1 — 450-ton all-terrain crane with just 10,055 km travelled

“This is a significant fleet coming to market, headlined by some of the largest capacity cranes we’ve brought to Marketplace-E,” said Dom McGlinchey, APAC Sales Director at Ritchie Brocs. “Buyers globally will have the chance to acquire assets that have been well cared for and put to work on major projects.”

For buyers, the dispersal offers the chance to source proven equipment from an established operator, at a time when replacement costs and lead times for new machinery remain important considerations.

A partnership spanning 15 years

The decision to work with Ritchie Bros. was a natural one for Metcalf Crane Services. The two companies have worked together for more than 15 years, with Ritchie Bros. supporting the sale of cranes, prime movers, trailers, light vehicles and other fleet equipment through multiple sales channels.

“After 30 years building this business, the decision to divest the fleet wasn’t one I took lightly — but the time felt right to focus on our other ventures, including Metcalf Heli Services,” said Tim Metcalf, Managing Director of Metcalf Crane Services. “We’ve worked with Ritchie Bros. across multiple channels for more than 15 years, so I know the fleet is in good hands to find new owners.”

The complete dispersal reflects that long-standing relationship, combining Metcalf’s substantial fleet with Ritchie Bros.’ domestic and global buyer network.
