Prime farmland and equipment auction brings big results for Blair family

Merle and Connie trusted Ritchie Bros. to sell their farmland and equipment in a big, two-day auction March 13-14, 2024. Over 2,400 registered bidders from across the globe participated in the successful auction that earned over $18.7 million.

Merle and Connie Blair’s Plover Lake Ranch presented a rare opportunity for buyers. The longtime family-owned farm in Youngstown, Alberta, was in operation since 1944 and came with both pasture and cultivation leases. It featured over 17,700 acres of versatile agricultural land and a complete lineup of equipment.

“We were looking for somebody as a selling partner who had integrity and is fun to work with,” said Merle Blair. “We found all those things in the Ritchie Bros. team.”

“We are so happy we decided to hold an auction with Ritchie Bros. instead of selling the items ourselves. The whole experience was better than we expected. Our Territory Managers were exceptional and went above and beyond with their attention and respect for my 91-year-old dad. The setup and sale day were fantastic.” – Doty Farms Inc., Carlyle, SK

“We were very pleased with our auction results! Thanks to Ritchie Bros.’ wide-spread advertising, 45% of the equipment left LaCrete. Our sales revenue would have been much less if we’d gone with a local auction company.” – Prime Acre Farms, LaCrete, AB

“This was the first time we had used the online bidding system. We liked the idea that the sale would be advertised world wide. We received numerous telephone calls from interested parties once the land had been listed for sale. There was lots of signage and advertising before the sale. The bidding started two days prior to the final sale. Each day the bidders kept battling with the prices increasing. The outcome far exceeded out expectations.” – Ron & Joan Tomanek, Whitkow, SK
