Bauma update #1: who’s coming and who’s not

Finally Bauma 2022 – taking place on October, 24-30, 2022 in Munich, Germany – is just around the corner. After a long 3-year break, many of the industry’s biggest players – including Ritchie Bros. – are planning to showcase their latest developments, products and services. To keep you updated on all the upcoming Bauma-related news and announcements for the upcoming two months, we will share a news digest in our bi-weekly blog series.

Major Bauma highlights

• Once inside bauma 2022, visitors can once again wonder at the scale of it all and nothing embodies this better than the iconic Liebherr stand at its ‘home’ show. Its 14,000 m² booth will offer visitors a first glimpse of its TA 230 Litronic ADT, the 2,500 t-capacity LR 12500-1.0 crawler crane, and the redesigned compact and mid-size Generation 8 wheel loader ranges, whose intelligent assistance technology will greatly enhance site safety. The company is also showcasing alternative powertrain innovations, including its first battery-electric wheel loader and telehandler.
• Another of the region’s famous names, Hamm, will be displaying several electrically powered tandem rollers in the HD CompactLine series. These are propelled by a 23 kWh Li-ion battery that is boosted with recuperated energy to deliver compaction equivalent to their diesel-powered counterparts over an entire working day.
• Offering about four hours of continuous use is Bobcat’s T7X 62 kWh all-electric compact track loader concept, with a rated operating capacity of 1374 kg. Innovation looks likely to dominate its display, with its Quad Track concept that allows for quickly converting a wheeled skid-steer into a four-tracked model in the running for an Innovation Award. Then there’s the Transparent Touch Display concept that utilizes OLED technology to provide a head-up display within a cab’s front windscreen or side window

More Construction Equipment Brands News

• Turning to the most-established Asian brands, Komatsu will feature 27 machines, the most impressive of which may be the WA800-8 wheel loader with its redesigned 11.5m³ bucket that enables a rated load capacity of 20,700kg.
• Hitachi, meanwhile, will be celebrating 50 years of success in Europe, displaying its first battery-powered excavator, the ZX55U-6EB, along with its smallest rubber duck, the ZX95W-7. Two specially adapted excavators for demanding demo work – the ZX400MC-7 and ZX390TC-7 – have also been creating quite a buzz online.
• Finally, Hyundai will feature its newly developed articulated dump trucks, the 28 t and 41 t HA30A and HA45A, while a concept hydrogen fuel cell-powered wheeled excavator is also expected to be among its 23 machines on display.

Who’s taking a break?

While thousands of companies will host hundreds of thousands of visitors at bauma, several notable names are skipping this year’s event. They came up with other ways to present their latest products and developments.

• Caterpillar will focus on using multiple channels to engage with customers worldwide and its German distributor, Zeppelin, will be representing the CAT brand in Munich. A good selection of equipment will still be on show, therefore, including nine mini excavators, nine tracked and four-wheeled excavators ranging from 15 to 95 tonnes capacity, and the recently introduced 906, 907 and 908 compact wheel loaders.
• Although JCB is using alternative ways to promote new products and attend smaller tradeshows in 2022, it will not be at bauma for the second consecutive time.
• Volvo Construction Equipment will focus on local market-branded events – similar to CNH Industrial’s response to changes in customer behaviour resulting from the pandemic
• Metso and JLG will also be taking a break this edition
