Heavy construction equipment for sale on GovPlanet

Selling heavy construction equipment – dozers, wheel loaders, excavators, and more – is probably what Ritchie Bros. is best known for. It’s a core equipment category across our multiple choices for buying including Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, IronPlanet, Marketplace-E and Boom & Bucket.

But one of our options for buying heavy construction equipment that you may not be as familiar with is GovPlanet. It’s our online solution for government entities like municipalities, highway departments, utility companies and more – organizations who unsurprisingly use a lot of heavy equipment – to sell used assets. And of course, one of the biggest sellers on GovPlanet is the U.S. military; their used heavy equipment usually identified by its distinctive olive drab/army green paint job.

Another great option for buying used heavy equipment

So what kinds of heavy equipment can you buy on Govplanet? Let’s take a look at just a few of the equipment types regularly available via GovPlanet’s weekly online auctions.

Dozers

As we mentioned, the U.S. Military/Department of Defense is one of the biggest sellers on GovPlanet, regularly offering a wide range of heavy equipment for sale. Why does the military use so much of this equipment? Think Army Corps of Engineers for a start – building everything from airfields in combat zones to flood control systems in the U.S. So of course they need to push a lot of dirt with dozers. You’ll find machines from Caterpillar, Case, and John Deere like the one shown here.

Wheel loaders and loader backhoes

Two more very popular machines you’ll regularly find on GovPlanet, like the Cat 420D IT 4×4 loader backhoe and John Deere 624KR wheel loader below.

Skid steers

You’ll often find ex-military skid steer loaders for sale, as well as skid steers used by municipal works and highway departments, and from a whole range of brands like Bobcat, Cat, Terex, JCB and more.

Hydraulic excavators

You’ll also find construction sites’ favorite heavy machinery – excavators – for sale on GovPlanet. They’re usually tracked, like the John Deere 250GR below, but you’ll also often find wheeled excavators as well, used by roads/highway departments where they don’t want to damage the street or ground covering.

Motor scrapers

These machines show up fairly regularly in GovPlanet’s inventory, and are often military surplus like the Cat 621G motor scraper shown below.

Dump trucks

Last but not least – dump trucks. You can find a wide selection of these trucks in different configurations – single axle, tandem axle etc. – from brands like Mack, Sterling, International and more.
