What BigIron Means for Ritchie Bros. Ag Sellers
Selling Ag Equipment? Your Next Sale Runs on BigIron
If you sell farm equipment with Ritchie Bros. and you’re based in one of BigIron’s core states, your equipment will be listed on BigIron starting with the Thursday, November 19 sale.
You’ll still work with the Territory Manager you know. What changes is where the listing lives and who sees it. Below is what that means for you and what to do before the sale.
BigIron Joined Ritchie Bros. in May
BigIron is based in Columbus, Nebraska, and became part of Ritchie Bros. this spring. It has run online farm equipment auctions for years, and thousands of farmers and dealers across the Midwest and Plains already buy there.
BigIron is a Ritchie Bros. Solution and is now our ag marketplace in the U.S. When your combine or planter shows up on BigIron, it’s still a Ritchie Bros. sale. It’s just being shown to the people who go to BigIron looking for ag equipment.
Is Your State Included?
The change covers ag sellers and ag dealers in Arkansas, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.
If you’re somewhere else, including California and Arizona, keep selling with Ritchie Bros. the way you always have.

Most BigIron Buyers Are New to You
The obvious worry is that your usual Ritchie Bros. buyers won’t follow your equipment to a different site. We looked at that after the August 28 ag sale, which ran on BigIron.
That sale drew 3,849 unique buyers across the two marketplaces. Only 78 of them, about 2%, had bought on both. Most BigIron buyers had never bought from Ritchie Bros., and most Ritchie Bros. buyers had never bought on BigIron.
Ritchie Bros. will keep marketing your equipment to our own ag buyers as well. So you hold on to the buyers you had and pick up BigIron’s. More bidders on the same tractor is good news for the person selling it. You can read more about how we market farm equipment to buyers.
What Changes for You
Two things change. Your equipment is listed and sold on BigIron, and a BigIron sales rep handles the sale day to day.
Your Territory Manager stays on your account. They’ll introduce you to your BigIron rep themselves before anything is listed, so you won’t get a call out of the blue from someone you’ve never met. And Ritchie Bros. keeps promoting your equipment to its buyers the whole way through.

Call your Territory Manager and tell them what you’re thinking of selling. They’ll bring in your BigIron rep, and BigIron takes care of the listing, the marketing, and reaching out to buyers.
If November is too soon, there’s another ag sale on BigIron on Friday, December 18. A lot of sellers use the weeks after harvest to move equipment they won’t need next season. Our guide on when to sell farm equipment covers how to think about timing.
Have Equipment to Sell This Year?
The first step is a phone call. Your Territory Manager can walk you through the November 19 sale and introduce you to the BigIron rep who’ll handle it.
