Rosetta Construction chooses Ritchie Bros. for complete dispersal

You spend decades building a business from the ground up, gaining pride and satisfaction along the way, and suddenly thoughts of retirement start to bubble.

What are your options? How can you get great returns on your assets? These and other questions quickly became a top priority for Victor Rosetta, founder of Rosetta Construction, as retirement neared.

“Rosetta Construction was founded in August of 2005,” Victor said. “We’ve been very fortunate. We have very good people, and we’ve had a good 20 years.”

Rosetta Construction’s bread and butter was municipal sewer and water contracts and large diameter projects, giving them a niche in their market around Springfield, Missouri, but at the same time it left the company with a good deal of specialized equipment in its fleet that required finding the right buyers.

Choosing the right company to handle a unique dispersal like this did feel like a real challenge for Victor while he began looking for an auctioneer with both the service and scope to do the job right.

“I did a little investigating on other auction companies, and I talked to folks that had previously utilized Richie Bros.,” Victor said. “I felt that their worldwide network was a good fit for Rosetta Construction and the equipment we had here. It’s a diversified fleet, and we needed someone with a wider reach.”

Moving and staging a diverse fleet ahead of a sale is another hurdle for many companies during retirements or transitions, and the ability to sell your fleet where it sits when you consign with Ritchie Bros. was another attractive option that helped seal the deal for Victor.

“We have a lot of equipment … and we’re old school. We still service all our equipment,” Victor said when discussing his fleet. “Excavators, when they’re on the job, the amount of work that we can do, making us more competitive. I would say having those has been very special. All my Komatsu excavators are a reason for my success. They’re just great machines.”

Relationships are key for Rosetta Construction

Victor is quick to attribute the lion’s share of his success to his people and his efforts to build strong relationships these past 20 years.

“My people,” Victor said when asked what he values most. “I can’t say enough about them. I’ve had the best people. And the clients – great clients. The business wasn’t just job by job. We built relationships with owners and suppliers. Beyond the work, it was building relationships and making good friends.”

“There’s always got to be a project,” he said. “I’m sure the wife will help me with that, but at least I won’t have a timeline. I think just spending more time with the family, maybe a little more fishing and hunting, and chasing Kansas State football and traveling. We’ll welcome all those opportunities.”

Rosetta Construction’s Retirement Auction took place March 19, with over 600 items selling online and unreserved.
