After an incredible 71 years in business, Gerry Schmitz, owner of Seneca Excavating & Landscaping Inc., has decided it’s time to wrap things up and prepare for his well-deserved retirement. He’ll be selling his heavy equipment and truck fleet in a complete dispersal as part of our upcoming Northeast Regional Event March 19–20.
Gerry started his business while still in high school in 1953, buying one truck with a loan from his father and growing his business over the years and decades to become one of the largest trucking and excavation companies in and around the Washington D.C. area. Seneca provided a wide variety of services including basement excavation, land clearing, gravel hauling and more.
Gerry is no stranger to Ritchie Bros., having bought and sold many times over the years at our auctions up and down the east coast.
“I bought a million dollars worth of trucks once at a Ritchie Bros. auction in Georgia!,” he said.
So when it came time to sell for his retirement, Gerry again turned to Ritchie Bros.
“I think the exposure you get with Ritchie Bros. is better than anywhere.”
The assets from Seneca are an excellent opportunity for buyers to pick up well-maintained heavy equipment and trucks. Says Gerry, “We take good care of our equipment. We have five mechanics, a body man, and a tire man.” All told, Gerry will be selling more than 100 heavy equipment items and trucks including:
- 27 Tri/A Dump Trucks
- 5 Tracked Excavators
- 5 Compact Track Loaders
- 5 Dozers
- 5 Tri/A Day Cab Truck Tractors
- Plus trailers, wheel loaders, compactors, pick ups and much more!
Don’t miss this dispersal! See the full inventory from Seneca and register to bid.
