Auction volumes are climbing across Ritchie Bros.’ international sales. Having managed equipment market cycles for decades, the company has built the expertise, infrastructure, and operational flexibility needed to adapt to changing volumes while ensuring every transaction receives the same level of attention and support.

Here is what that looks like in practice.

When a 125-tonne excavator recently sold from the company’s UK site to a buyer in Egypt, it didn’t simply change hands. The team dismantled it, loaded it across six containers, secured it with £7,000 of chains and had it shipped within three to four days. Since the UK left the EU, every machine sold into Europe must also clear phytosanitary certification – stripped down and inspected for the smallest trace of soil before it can cross the border. Ritchie Bros.’ Maltby team built that expertise from the ground up and now manages the process for sellers, so a machine that sells in minutes still clears the border cleanly.

Reach is the other half of the equation. From its bonded yard near Madrid, Ritchie Bros. can take in equipment from anywhere in the world and sell it on without formal importation, making Spain a natural gateway between continents. The company’s largest project there began with around 4,000 machines from a North African construction programme, shipped in across 21 vessels and sold over 18 months to buyers in almost 90 countries. “Our operations team is one of the most experienced in the entire organisation,” says Fergus Garrett, Spain Regional Operations Manager. “That experience is what lets us stay close to our customers and handle every detail so they don’t have to.”

For sellers, that combination of local teams and global buyers is what turns a single asset into a stronger result: fewer delays, less risk, and a far wider pool of buyers than any domestic market alone can offer.
