What Does the Average Prairie Offsite Look Like?
Sixty buyers. A hundred and twenty lots gone. Five hundred and forty-six people registered to bid. That’s not a headline auction pulled from our biggest results, that’s the average offsite across the Canadian Prairies this summer.
Between June and August 2026, Ritchie Bros. ran 43 auction days across offsite locations throughout the Prairies, working with 81 sellers. Some were multi-generational farms clearing out retiring equipment. Others were contractors and fleet managers moving a handful of units between jobs. Big operation or small, the results looked remarkably consistent because the process behind them is the same, every time.
The numbers behind an average offsite
Across the season, the typical Prairie offsite delivered:
- 546 registrants per auction: a full room of people ready to bid, not just browse
- 120 lots sold per auction: a real, working sale, not a handful of leftover items
- 60 buyers per auction: competitive bidding with enough depth to drive genuine demand
And that demand wasn’t just local. Buyers on these offsite sales came from across Canada, the United States, Mexico, Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, and Guatemala. Registered bidders stretched even further, spanning more than 40 countries over the course of the season. A seller in rural Saskatchewan or Alberta wasn’t just reaching the neighboring farm; they were reaching a global market, from the same offsite lot.
That’s the point worth underlining, this is what we deliver for every seller, big or small. A 582-seller season isn’t built on a few large accounts carrying the average amount. It’s built on consistent registrant counts, consistent buyer turnout, and consistent lots moved, auction after auction, location after location.

An offsite auction only works if it brings real buyers and a fair process to wherever the equipment sits. That’s the case we make with every seller:
Reach without travel.
You don’t have to haul equipment to a central yard to get in front of a global buyer pool. We bring the marketplace to your location. The registrant and buyer numbers above happened on lots across the Prairies, not in a single flagship facility.
Decades of doing exactly this.
Running 43 offsite auction days in a single season, for 582 different sellers, takes a process that’s been refined over and over again. We know how to market a sale, get buyers registered, and get equipment sold at scale, and on your timeline.

The same marketing reach, the same buyer registration, and the same auction-day execution apply regardless of the size of your consignment.
Every offsite gets the same services as an onsite auction
Selling offsite doesn’t mean a stripped-down experience. Every seller and potential buyer has access to the full suite of Ritchie Bros. services, delivered wherever the equipment is:
- RBFS financing: available to qualified buyers, the same as any onsite sale, helping widen the pool of people who can actually bid on your equipment.
- Transport, available through Veritread: buyers can request pickup and delivery logistics geo-targeted to your location; this is not included in the offsite and is arranged and timed directly between buyer and seller.
- Refurbishing services: we can coordinate and manage refurbishing through third-party partners ahead of your sale, to help equipment show and sell at its best.
- Appraisal services: through Ritchie Bros. Appraisals, with the appraisal fee eligible for reimbursement when you move forward with an auction.
- Full inspections: completed and published for buyers to review, with inspection events coordinated on-site or remotely, so buyers get the same condition transparency they’d expect from any RB sale.
None of this is an “offsite version” of our services. It’s the same infrastructure, extended to your yard, your farm, or your job site.
