Tell us about your time at Ritchie Bros. and what a typical day looks like for you

As a Territory Manager for Ritchie Bros., I oversee our South Florida and Caribbean Territories. My association with Ritchie Bros spans for 24 years, having previously interacted with them when working for an equipment dealer in Colombia. Ritchie Bros. then offered me a role in Panama in Central America. From there I moved to Territory Manager for the Mexican west coast, and now I continue my journey in South Florida.

A typical day for me starts with an early venture onto the road, where I dive into a series of cold calls. These purposeful calls are a significant part of my routine, allowing me to forge connections and seize opportunities. I often strategically schedule customer lunches, as I aim to cultivate strong relationships and share valuable moments of quality interaction. Remaining ever watchful, I keenly observe ongoing construction activities wherever my path takes me and inquire accordingly.

Q: What does it take to be successful in a Territory Sales Manager role at Ritchie Bros.?

Passion is the driving force behind success at Ritchie Bros, amplified by the very essence of our company culture. This culture revolves around advocating for the customer’s best interests, ensuring that every action taken is aligned with their needs. We strive to foster genuine camaraderie, forming lasting friendships that convey our unwavering support and solidarity with each customer. Engaging in this role necessitates honing a spectrum of skills – understanding the equipment, adeptness in meticulous inspections, and a keen sense of business acumen when it comes to striking deals.

What are the more unique or interesting aspects of your role?

The truly exhilarating aspect of my role lies in its ever-changing nature. Each day presents a unique opportunity for learning diverse skills and honing my expertise. Moreover, I cherish the chance to foster meaningful connections with customers, some of whom have evolved into genuine friends over time. Also, this job has added given me many amazing experiences:

  • I have had the privilege of visiting some of the world’s largest gold and coal mines.
  • I once conducted an appraisal at one of highest altitude mines (if not the highest), situated over 16,000 feet above sea level.
  • Visiting over thirteen countries, all made possible through my association with Ritchie Bros.

What are some of your interests outside of work?

Beyond my professional endeavors, my heart finds joy in accompanying my two daughters to their soccer practices and games, a precious bond that connects us both in their formative years of 4 and 15. On the weekends we spend a lot of time on the beach or the Florida springs.
