International Construction magazine has revealed its list of the world’s biggest contractors, called the ICON 200. You can download the full report from the magazine’s July-August edition. Combined sales for all the contractors on the list totaled US$1.968 trillion. That’s a record figure for the ICON 200. Last’s year total was US$1.746 billion. International Construction cites growth in all major markets as countries gradually emerge from the pandemic slowdown.
China dominates world’s biggest construction contractors
Chinese contractors accounted for the majority of the top spots on the world’s biggest contractors list. According to the report, Chinese-based contractors benefited from the country’s Belt and Road Initiative, a global infrastructure development strategy for the Chinese government. Here is the top 10 of the world’s biggest contractors:
1. China State Construction & Engineering (CSCEC)
2. China Railway Group
3. China Railway Construction Corporation
4. China Communications Construction
5. Metallurgical Corporation of China (MCC)
6. Vinci
7. Bouygues’ Construction Divisions
8. Shanghai Construction Group
9. ACS
10. D R Horton
US-based contractors came in second as the largest contributors on the list, followed by Japan with just under 10% of global sales.
French construction giant Vinci reports growth
Vinci’s construction division, which came in at number 6 in the top-200 contractors list, recently reported revenue growth for the first half of 2022.
Revenue for the company in H1 totaled $13.5 billion Euros, with $6.4 billion coming from within France, including the Grand Paris Express project.
Other major projects on the slate for Vinci includes the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link undersea tunnel between Germany and Denmark.
