Today’s equipment seller has no shortage of options to choose from. They can sell assets themselves through web listings, via social media, word of mouth, dealers, brokers, live or online reserved or unreserved auctions, and much more. There are many avenues to consider and it’s easy to get turned around in trying to decide what’s the best way to go and make sure you get the best returns.
Most sellers are busy with their business and have a limited amount of time to invest in a DIY selling process. They want money in their pocket within a short time frame. Their time is valuable, and selling equipment or trucks is not their primary business.
We understand everyone has different needs; whether selling one pick-up truck or whole fleet of crawler tractors. That’s why we offer multiple transaction solutions to suit your needs. Let’s breakdown what to consider when choosing what’s right for you.
Flexible timelines that work on your schedule
The timing of when you need to sell can vary greatly depending on multiple factors. Sometimes you need a quick sale to shore up cash for an upcoming project, or maybe there’s surplus assets consuming space in your yard.
A misconception about Ritchie Bros. is that you have to wait for the next live auction to sell. The truth is, we have selling solutions that accommodate all kinds of selling timelines. We offer weekly auctions, regional auctions with set dates, and a 24/7 marketplace which allows us to build tailor solutions to meet your needs.

Selling options to fit your needs
When you’re deciding on a selling channel for your equipment, the priorities that drive your decision are usually business-related, but can also be based on personal choice too, and usually fall into one of three categories: price, timing, and convenience.
That’s why we offer multiple solutions to fit each of those needs.
With our unreserved auctions you receive certainty of sale on auction date. If you are not confident in the unreserved auction process, we do offer guarantees or outright purchases.
You can also set a reserved price on our Make Offer/Buy Now platform, a 24-7 online marketplace where you can control the terms, but have someone else manage the selling process.
Sell where it works for you
The ability to sell from your own location or at one of our facilities is another way we offer flexibility to sellers. If you need space in your yard or the equipment moved from a job site, you can move it to one of our 55+ locations worldwide and sell from there.
Too much of a hassle or cost to move the equipment or trucks? No problem, we have selling solutions that allow you to sell exactly where it sits. We can do an equipment inspection at your location.
- Sell from your location on our Weekly Online Auction
- Sell from one of our 55+ worldwide locations
- Or sell from your location using our Virtual Sales Option during a Ritchie Bros. onsite event
Choose your involvement level
We understand all customers have different preferences when it comes to their involvement in the sale. Some customers prefer to drop off their assets and let us handle everything for them. Others would like to be fully involved in the selling process through our self-serve listing platform or be partially involved in responding to customer inquiries about their equipment.
Whatever the case, our team will work with you to understand how little or how much you’d like to be involved in the process and provide solutions that fit your needs. We can handle all buyer inquires for you; unless you want a high level of involvement. Just let us know!
