As the calendar turns to September 2022, the equipment market is in a much different place than it was this time last year. 2021 was a record-breaking year for equipment and truck prices and that momentum carried into the first quarter of this year, but over the past few months pricing has started to throttle back.
Low interest rates, government stimulus, increased infrastructure investment, and high commodity prices fueled incredible demand for equipment through the pandemic, but we are starting to come back down to reality.
In both our July and August Market Trends Reports we showcased that while pricing remains up year over year, our industry indexes appear to be declining on a month-to-month basis. According to Rouse Services latest Equipment Report, “Auction values were generally flat or slightly down recently, depending on the product type. In contrast, retail values continued their upward trend, but at a lower rate of increase than in recent periods.”
